Job summary

SurgCenter Pinellas is seeking a Surgery Scheduler to coordinate and schedule surgical procedures, acting as the liaison between surgeons’ offices, patients, anesthesia providers, and center staff.

The role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and excellent communication to ensure accurate scheduling, documentation, and timely pre-operative steps; healthcare scheduling experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in healthcare scheduling or physician office operations preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures preferred.
• Familiarity with insurance verification, referrals, and prior authorizations preferred.
• Strong computer and electronic medical record skills.

Responsibilities

• Schedule surgical procedures in accordance with physician, patient, facility, and operating room availability.
• Coordinate surgery dates and times with physicians' offices, patients, anesthesia providers, and surgical center staff.
• Obtain and verify accurate patient demographic, insurance, and surgical information.
• Coordinate required pre-operative testing, medical clearance, and other documentation as appropriate.
• Verify insurance benefits and assist with obtaining required authorizations and referrals.
• Ensure surgical cases are entered accurately into the scheduling system.
• Review surgical orders and case information for completeness and accuracy.
• Communicate pre-operative instructions and required appointments to patients and physician offices.
• Coordinate changes, cancellations, and rescheduling of surgical procedures.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and scheduling systems.
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, physician office staff, nurses, anesthesia personnel, and other members of the surgical team.
