Job summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) for Ambulatory Orthopedic Services at MedStar Washington Hospital Center is a nursing leader guiding clinical operations, quality, and patient care across the orthopedic treatment and recovery journey. In collaboration with the Director of Nursing and interdisciplinary partners, the ADON drives safe, high-quality, cost-conscious care and staff engagement.

Responsibilities include setting site goals, managing performance, budget oversight, patient safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
• Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field preferred.
• 3-4 years of progressive nursing care experience required.
• 1-2 years of leadership and management experience preferred.
• RN license in Maryland or DC required.
• CPR certification required; specialty certs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops site/office goals and policies with the Director of Nursing.
• Ensures compliance with standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Oversees staff performance and conducts performance management.
• Monitors quality metrics and patient safety initiatives.
• Leads safety huddles and coordinates patient care operations.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams for smooth operations.
