Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking an Ambulatory Divisional Registered Nurse to provide, develop, coordinate, and manage clinical duties across outpatient locations. The role partners with Ambulatory Leadership, Division Chair, and Medical Director to ensure safe, timely ambulatory care within the division.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program.
• Minimum 3 years of nursing experience; 1-2 years in the designated pediatric or adult division.
• Current RN license and BLS certification.
• Nursing specialty board certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follows physician/licensed provider orders within Nurse Practice Act and established standards.
• Triages patient calls and in basket messages per ambulatory standards.
• Facilitates training to improve specialty knowledge across ambulatory clinic locations.
• Prepares charts for return visits and reviews records prior to patient visits.
• Performs chart reviews/prep to ensure correct clinic scheduling.
• Provides disease- and procedure-specific education to patients.
• Creates educational materials for common topics within division.
• Assists providers during clinical procedures as needed.
• Ensures continuity of care across clinic sites with team collaboration.
• Supports prior authorization requirements for emergent/same-day cases.
• Monitors patient satisfaction and drives service excellence.
• Serves as a nursing SME for ambulatory care across multiple sites.
• Collaborates on research, evidence-based practice, or process improvement.
