Job Description: Airport Operations Dispatcher

Performs skilled, technical work in the operation of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport’s (GFIAA) operations dispatch system. Receives emergency and routine public safety and service calls from all areas of the airport property and premises, dispatches appropriate equipment and personnel, and/or takes other appropriate action based on the information received. Maintains two-way radio communication with airport police, fire/rescue, operations, maintenance, and other department staff. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, with considerable latitude for independent action and initiative.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in Aviation Management, Aviation Science, Business Administration, or other relevant field, or three years of progressively responsible and demonstrably successful experience in lieu of degree.
2. Basic working knowledge of airport administration, operations, security, and airfield maintenance practices and principles (preferred).
3. Satisfactory work record and personal history.
4. Training or experience in the use of electronic communications equipment, including voice and data communications, radio transmitters, paging devices, and electronic recording devices.
5. Computer literacy with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database management applications.
6. Knowledge of standard practices and procedures of airport communications operations (preferred).
7. Ability to accurately type brief statements on various electronic input devices.
8. Ability to quickly prioritize and respond to multiple concurrent events.
9. Ability to interact positively with callers from diverse cultural backgrounds and varying English language skills.
10. Ability to interact positively with coworkers, supervisors, airport tenants, and the public from diverse backgrounds.
11. Discretion regarding HIPAA, Criminal Justice Information, Privacy, etc.
12. Availability to work any assigned shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating irregular shifts.
