Job summary

American Airlines in Topeka, KS is hiring a Customer Service Agent responsible for promoting and selling air travel, assisting with passenger check-in and cargo status, and ensuring smooth flight operations. Shifted at times, the role requires safeguarding passengers and following regulatory procedures.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, FAA background clearance for SIDA access where applicable, and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or international equivalent
• Bilingual language talents may be required in some locations
• Applicable valid driver’s license as required by local government
• Must satisfy FAA background checks to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA), if applicable
• Must be capable of obtaining airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable
• Completion of a pre-employment drug screen, basic background check and/or fingerprinting to meet company and safety requirements
• Must be legally able to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Promotes and sells air tours to the traveling public or freight forwarders
• Provides assistance with passenger check-in and cargo status
• Interprets government policies and requirements for domestic and international travel or cargo shipments
• Meets and dispatches aircraft within established schedules
• Provides assistance to distressed passengers and clients
• Protects company assets and revenue
• Ensures safe travel
• Uses organizational skills to perform multiple duties within a limited time
• Is self-driven and requires minimal supervision
• Responds and assists during security and emergency situations
• Follows internal/external policies and procedures
• May be required to operate jet bridges and perform air stairs to board and deplane passengers
• May be required to perform Passenger Operation control functions including air-to-ground communication as well as Tower functions
• Depending on airport location this role may work in various weather conditions
• Flight operations customer service staff shifts include irregular and/or extended hours, weekends and holidays
