Marathon Petroleum Company LP in Indianapolis, Indiana, seeks an Air Subject Matter Expert to lead air permitting and compliance across terminals, pipelines, marine facilities, and transport fleets.

This role develops regulatory strategies, conducts NSPS determinations, audits, training, and vendor coordination while collaborating with field teams and senior stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 15 years of relevant environmental experience in a process industry, or Bachelor’s degree in a HES related field, Engineering, or advanced degree with 7 years environmental experience.
• Detailed knowledge on current and proposed environmental rules and regulations with the ability to communicate impact plans to local leadership for budget development.
• Ability to review engineering designs and specifications to ensure compliance with environmental rules and regulations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of facilities and relationships with environmental rules and regulations with the ability to initiate steps that will avoid reoccurrence of environmental problems.
• A driver’s license is required. Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC.
• Preferred qualifications include: at least 5 years of air permitting and compliance experience; degree in civil/environmental engineering or Environmental Management; relevant industry certifications; strong background in oil and gas environment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted advisor to field Environmental Specialists by providing day-to-day air permitting and regulatory compliance support.
• Lead and support implementation of new and revised air regulations (40 CFR Part 60 Subpart XXa; Part 63 Subparts R and BBBBBB).
• Collaborate with other Air SMEs, expanding expertise across multiple programs.
• Perform NSPS determinations for terminal, pipeline, and marine projects.
• Lead and support air permit and compliance audits, and drive continuous improvement.
• Represent L&S in rule advocacy through trade organizations and help shape regulatory outcomes.
• Create and improve guidance documents and compliance tools for consistent practice.
• Develop and deliver training to field Environmental Specialists on air compliance topics.
