Job summary

Altana, the network for trusted trade, is seeking an Engineering Manager in Brooklyn, NY to build and lead a team delivering AI-native, end-to-end solutions. You will partner with product and design, own hiring and performance, and ensure systems scale with output growth.

You will stay close to customers, define problems with evidence, and drive efficient planning and delivery while balancing quality and cost in a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Real-world experience writing backend or data-driven software in demanding environments.
• Proven track record leading a team with coaching, feedback, and hiring responsibilities.
• Strong customer-facing experience turning problems into shipped work and incremental releases.
• Experience planning and delivering for a team that consistently meets commitments.
• Comfort owning operations including incidents, on-call, and cost management.
• Proficient written and verbal communication with sound judgment on escalation.

Responsibilities

• Build the team and help each person grow through performance management.
• Stay close to customers, join calls, and identify top friction points.
• Define problems with product/design before choosing solutions.
• Contribute code when needed and manage architecture and debt as needed.
• Build AI-native systems with verifiable checks before reaching customers.
• Run planning processes to deliver realistic, committed plans.
• Improve team speed by identifying bottlenecks and reducing operational debt.
• Own the systems you run, keep incidents rare, and manage on-call loads.
• Create a culture that handles ambiguity and safe idea sharing.
