Job summary

HDR, Inc. seeks an Applied Data Scientist – AI Enablement to build internal AI capabilities within HDR’s Transportation Business Group. You will develop AI solutions, improve data foundations, and identify bottlenecks to scale AI across the organization.

Initially focused on internal delivery, the role will progressively transition to client-facing AI advisory work, leveraging proven solutions as repeatable services. This position blends technical execution with strategic collaboration.

Qualifications

• Degree in a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum 3 years experience with SQL, Power Query, and Pandas
• Minimum 3 years experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, Seaborn, Matplotlib)
• Minimum 3 years experience with Python and R
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Proficiency with MS Office
• Ability to handle confidential information
• Flexibility to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Active participant in our employee-owned culture
• Experience completing multiple data science projects
• In-depth knowledge of ML algorithms, statistical models, and data analytics
• Six Sigma or process improvement certifications
• Advanced degree
• Consulting or professional services experience
• Experience designing or improving data pipelines and AI infrastructure

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI solutions addressing internal transportation business needs
• Build reusable AI components, data pipelines, and workflows scalable for client delivery
• Manage full model lifecycle including development, deployment, monitoring, drift detection, retraining, and inference
• Identify data limitations, system integration, tooling, governance, and processes to enable AI adoption
• Partner with IT, data architects, and stakeholders to implement scalable improvements
• Document technical debt and architectural gaps to address before scaling AI capacity
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate problems into AI solutions
• Communicate AI concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
• Support client pursuits and pilot projects using internally developed AI capabilities
• Contribute to evolution of repeatable AI services and offerings
• Note: role requires flexibility to perform other duties as required
