Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking an Applied Data Scientist – AI Enablement to build internal AI capabilities and remove constraints that limit scale within HDR’s Transportation Business Group.

Initial work focuses on internal solutions, data foundation, and bottleneck removal, with a transition to client-facing AI delivery as capabilities mature. The role emphasizes designing AI components, data pipelines, model lifecycles, and collaboration with IT and business stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience with SQL, Power Query, and Pandas.
• 3+ years experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, Seaborn, and Matplotlib.
• 3+ years experience with Python and R.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with multitasking ability.
• Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
• Excellent writing and people skills.
• Strong math and organizational skills.
• Flexibility to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Active participation in employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Internal AI Capability Development: Design, develop, deploy AI solutions for internal needs; build reusable AI components and data pipelines; manage full model lifecycle.
• Constraint & Bottleneck Identification: Identify data, system, tooling, governance gaps; collaborate with IT and stakeholders; document technical debt.
• Collaboration & Communication: Translate problems into AI solutions; communicate AI concepts to technical and non-technical teams.
• Future Client-Facing Work: Support client pursuits and pilots using internal AI capabilities; contribute to repeatable AI services offerings.
• Note: This role requires flexibility to perform other duties as required.
