Job summary

NextGear Capital, part of Cox Automotive, is seeking a Software Engineer II to build and evolve systems and digital capabilities powering our automotive inventory finance business. You will work with product and engineering teams to design, implement, test, and deliver high-quality software that creates value for customers and internal teams.

This role emphasizes ownership of discrete features and components, AI-enabled workflows, secure coding, and measurable impact across the full stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 2 years of experience or equivalent.
• AI-augmented mindset with ability to evaluate outputs and provide context.
• Strong problem solving and ability to troubleshoot moderately complex issues.
• Full stack proficiency across backend and frontend with at least one deep area.
• Familiarity with Git workflows and collaborative development practices.
• Knowledge of observability tools to monitor system health.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with AI agents to build, test, and deploy software across the SDLC.
• Contribute to design discussions and help conceptualize outcomes.
• Estimate feature scope in terms of technical input and time.
• Develop unit and system tests following secure coding practices.
• Provide troubleshooting and enhancement for existing and new features.
• Use observability tools to diagnose issues and validate production behavior.
• Document processes and share best practices with the team.
• Communicate status and blockers to teammates and stakeholders.
• Participate in code reviews and take ownership of assigned work.
