Job summary

NextGear Capital, a leading automotive inventory finance business, is seeking a Software Engineer II to help build and evolve systems and digital capabilities. You will work with AI-assisted development tools, own discrete features, and collaborate across product and engineering teams to design, test, and deliver high-quality software that drives value for customers and internal teams.

The role emphasizes AI-enabled workflows, strong engineering fundamentals, and responsibility for design

Qualifications

AI-augmented mindset and SDLC collaboration with AI coding assistants.
Strong analytical judgment and ability to troubleshoot moderately complex issues.
Working knowledge of full stack: backend, frontend, and relational data modeling.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with AI agents to build, test, and deploy software across the SDLC.
Contribute to prompt engineering and share tool usage insights with the team.
Engage in design discussions to define outcomes from a software engineering perspective.
Assist with feature estimation in terms of technical input, resources, time, and outcomes.
Develop unit and system tests, ensuring secure coding practices.
Provide technical support and enhancements for existing and new features.
Use observability tools to monitor health, diagnose issues, and validate changes in production.
Document processes and best practices for repeatability.
Update stakeholders on status, challenges, and concerns.
Participate in code reviews and provide/receive feedback.
Take ownership of assigned work and drive to completion with minimal oversight.
