Job summary

NextGear Capital is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve applications and platforms across the SDLC, leveraging AI-assisted development to drive modern engineering practices. You will guide technical decision-making, mentor teammates, and balance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 4 years' experience in a related field (or equivalent combinations).
• Advanced, deliberate use of AI coding assistants across the SDLC, and leadership in AI-Augmented development practices.
• Analytical and architectural judgment capable of resolving complex, ambiguous problems.
• Demonstrated depth across the stack (backend Java/Spring Boot, frontend React, SQL/data modeling).
• Fluent with Git workflows and collaborative development practices.
• Strong knowledge of logging, metrics, tracing, and monitoring tools to establish observability.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with AI agents and tools to build, test, and deploy software across the SDLC, providing proper contextual inputs to improve AI understanding and output quality
• Define coding standards, review practices, and ethical guidelines for AI use
• Mentor peers and coach junior team members on AI-augmented development
• Serve on teams to develop, improve, and deliver product/system elements and features
• Break down requirements into actionable specs and estimations
• Own Spec Driven Development sessions turning ambiguous requirements into structured plans
• Ensure design, development, and execution align with architectural standards
• Establish observability practices across owned systems and diagnose issues early
