Job summary

Subcritical Systems is seeking a CAD Designer to join our mechanical engineering team in Austin, TX, working with ATLAS AI-assisted CAD workflows to produce production-quality Siemens NX models, assemblies, and detailed drawings. You will refine first-pass outputs and ensure builds meet standards while interfacing with AI tools and automation tasks.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in CAD drafting, a Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, and a strong eye for precision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of professional CAD design or drafting experience.
• Proficient in Siemens NX with drafting and GD&T basics.
• Interest in AI-based design, drafting, and automation tools.
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
• Willingness to take direction and feedback from senior staff.

Responsibilities

• Refine ATLAS-generated geometry and templates into production-quality 3D models, assemblies, and drawings in Siemens NX.
• Validate outputs against design intent and internal drafting standards before release.
• Apply AI-assisted CAD workflows and drafting tools as a daily practice.
• Assist in building and maintaining CAD automation scripts and templates (NX Open, Python).
• Develop 3D CAD models for cryomodule components and tooling; create manufacturing-ready 2D drawings with GD&T and BOMs.
• Support design reviews, redlines, ECOs, and cross-functional coordination.
