Job summary

OpenAI Forward Deployed Engineers work closely with customers to turn research into production AI systems. You will embed with law firms and legal teams to identify high-value use cases, prototype solutions, and prove measurable value in real-world workflows.

Based in San Francisco or New York City, this role combines hands-on software and ML engineering with customer-facing delivery. A hybrid schedule and relocation assistance are provided, with travel up to 50% as needed to drive impact.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering, ML engineering, or technical deployment with customer ownership.
• Experience in environments where failure has financial or regulatory impact.
• Proficient in Python/JavaScript and production-grade code.
• Experience deploying systems powered by LLMs or generative models and understanding guardrails.

Responsibilities

• Embed with customers to identify high-value opportunities and initial use cases.
• Build full-stack systems delivering customer value and learnings.
• Guide adoption with customer teams and translate feedback to product.
• Make trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality to protect delivery.
• Contribute code when needed to progress or clarify.
• Turn deployments into repeatable patterns for scale.
