Job summary

EY seeks a senior AI/Applied ML engineer to build and operate long‑running agent systems that function across complex workflows with strong safety, governance, and operational rails. The role emphasizes deterministic workflows, scalable tooling, and collaboration with product and security teams.

You will ship large‑scale AI agents, manage state and memory across sessions, and ensure robust recovery and user control while traveling up to 50% for hybrid office collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• 7–9 years of experience in software or applied machine‑learning engineering with ownership of production systems.
• Hands‑on evidence of shipping large‑language‑model applications, agents, or complex model‑driven workflows for real work.
• Strong capability in Python, TypeScript, or other production languages.
• Applied AI patterns including model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, tool use, and evaluation of variable behavior.
• Distributed execution with asynchronous work, state, concurrency, idempotency, retries, and failure recovery.
• Experience implementing access boundaries and scoped authority for applications or automated workloads.
• Evidence of improving live systems through traces, metrics, logs, incident analysis, and durable remediation.
• Travel and on-site capability up to 50% with hybrid office requirements.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model to balance performance and complexity.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts and validated outcomes.
• Engineer agent behavior including planning, routing, delegation, stopping, retry, and handoff.
• Create durable context by combining instructions, user state, retrieval, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, budgets, approvals, and containment.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests for verified task success, tool use, recovery, and human takeover.
• Operate long‑running execution using durable state, checkpointing, safe retries, and graceful degradation.
• Make behavior observable with end‑to‑end traces and replay for failure diagnosis.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points to inspect, interrupt, redirect, and resume work.
• Build shared capability by partnering across product, platform, security, and evaluation teams.
