Job summary

Boston Public Schools is seeking an Afterschool Director for the Hennigan 1–6 school-run afterschool program. You will lead program design, ensure safety, inclusivity, and enrichment, and work with school leadership to align afterschool activities with the instructional day.

You will supervise staff, manage daily operations and enrollment, support EEC voucher compliance, and coordinate with families and community partners to broaden access and student success.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of leadership experience in afterschool, out-of-school time, or youth development programs serving elementary-aged children.
• Demonstrated experience supervising and developing staff.
• Experience managing program operations, including scheduling, enrollment, and compliance responsibilities.
• Knowledge of child development and effective practices in youth development and out-of-school time programming.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated competency working with families of different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with facilitators, families, and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Establish vision and design of the afterschool program with school leadership.
• Collaborate with school leadership to ensure afterschool programming complements and extends learning.
• Ensure equitable access to high-quality afterschool programming for all students.
• Evaluate program quality and implement continuous improvements based on observations and outcomes.
• Serve as the on-site administrator during afterschool hours and support staff with student behavior.
• Lead staff supervision, observations, and ongoing professional development.
• Coordinate with enrollment, EEC compliance, and family support efforts.
• Oversee daily operations including scheduling, supplies, and facility use.
• Manage program budget in collaboration with school leadership.
• Ensure coordination between afterschool and other school initiatives.
