Job summary

Youth Development Professional – Elementary will work primarily at a school-based site with the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro. You’ll create a safe, engaging after-school program that supports academic progress and social-emotional growth for middle school youth.

The role emphasizes hands-on mentoring, collaborative teamwork, and a commitment to positive youth development in a dynamic, supportive environment.

Qualifications

No prior youth-work experience required; entry-level role.
Must be at least 18 years old to be eligible.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
High emotional intelligence and integrity.
Ability to connect authentically with a diverse group of youth.
Ability to independently supervise a group of youth.
Patience and the ability to work under pressure in emotionally charged situations.

Responsibilities

Engaging supervision: create a safe, structured, welcoming environment for all youth.
Facilitate engaging activities: lead after-school programs promoting learning and social growth.
Adapt and implement lessons: deliver curriculum-based activities and adjust to learners’ needs.
Create a positive learning environment: establish routines and behavior management strategies.
Build positive relationships: mentor youth, encourage participation, recognize strengths.
Manage daily operations: oversee transitions, meals, and lessons for a smooth flow.
Collaborate with your team: work with colleagues to improve activities and meet goals.
Be flexible and support where needed: assist at different sites as program needs require.
