Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking an Instructor for Youth Programs to support after-school activities at Mid Valley Family YMCA, Van Nuys, CA. The role focuses on building positive relationships with children, delivering curriculum, and collaborating with parents and staff.

The position emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and adherence to YMCA policies, with responsibilities spanning classroom direction, activity planning, and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completed semester units in CD, human services, or related fields preferred.
• Previous experience with school-age children in group settings.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Current First Aid, Adult/Infant/Child CPR certifications within 60 days of hire; child abuse prevention training required; Y-USA Leader Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Nurtures children through purposeful programming focused on achievement and belonging.
• Maintain close visual supervision of a group of children according to ratios.
• Provide positive behavior management and redirection as needed.
• Ensure ADA compliance and inclusive programming where appropriate.
• Plan and implement classes with a topic and mastery goals; showcase outcomes at session end.
• Maintain safety, cleanliness, and program records per YMCA standards.
• Engage and communicate with parents; involve them as volunteers where possible.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and family events; support reporting and risk management.
