Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles invites energetic instructors to join our youth programs. You will supervise groups of children, deliver age-appropriate activities, and foster a sense of achievement and belonging while collaborating with parents and staff.

Responsibilities include safety, adherence to YMCA policies, documenting activities, and participating in trainings and family events. A high school diploma and caregiving experience are desired; First Aid/CPR certifications are required

Qualifications

  • Age 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed semester units in CD, human services, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate activities.
  • Diversity experience preferred.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Strong character values (respect, responsibility, honesty, caring).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Emotional maturity.
  • Current First Aid; Adult, Infant and Child CPR certifications within 60 days of hire.
  • Completion of child abuse prevention training prior to first day in program.
  • Y-USA Leader Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Nurture children through purposeful programming focused on achievement and belonging.
  • Maintain close supervision of a group of assigned children based on ratios.
  • Use positive behavior management strategies and constructive discipline.
  • Plan and implement classes around a topic, culminating in a showcase.
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper program records per YMCA standards.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and engage them as volunteers.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and family events; follow YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Uphold Six Pillars of Character and YMCA Core Values.
  • Demonstrate leadership competencies and personal growth.
