Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads seeks a Counselor (Site Lead) to oversee the 5–12 age child care program, ensuring high-quality, developmentally appropriate activities. You will report to the Youth Development Director and guide staff, collaborate with families and partners, and uphold licensing and safety standards.

This role emphasizes leadership, staff development, program evaluation, and community engagement to help children and families thrive in a welcoming YMCA environment.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
• CPR/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
• Medication Authorization Training (MAT) within 60 days of hire.
• Background checks and pre-employment requirements completed.
• Ability to develop positive relationships with diverse backgrounds.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work at various program locations.

Responsibilities

• Program Leadership: perform the director’s responsibilities in the director’s absence.
• Provide leadership in curriculum implementation and activities.
• Staff Supervision and development, supporting program leads and assistants.
• Quality Assurance: ensure compliance with licensing regulations and YMCA standards.
• Family Engagement: foster communication and inclusive environments with families.
• Community Partnerships: collaborate with schools and local organizations.
• Training, development, and staff workshops.
• Documentation and reporting for enrollment, attendance, and regulatory needs.
