Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Counselor (Site Lead) to oversee high-quality child care programs for ages 5-12. You will lead operations, support staff, and engage with families while ensuring compliance with licensing and YMCA standards.

The role emphasizes leadership, staff development, and collaboration with community partners to promote positive outcomes for children and families. This position offers growth within a supportive community for youth development.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Meet the minimum qualifications for “Director-designee” as defined by VA DOE.
• CPR/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
• Medication Authorization Training (MAT) within 60 days of hire.
• Completes all pre-employment requirements including background checks.
• Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills appropriate for interacting with children.

Responsibilities

• Provide program leadership and oversee daily operations in the absence of the director.
• Oversee developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for children 5–12.
• Supervise staff, mentor team, and provide professional development opportunities.
• Ensure licensing, standards, and YMCA policies are followed across programming.
