Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Counselor (Site Lead) to oversee high-quality child care programs for ages 5-12. You will implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, supervise staff, and collaborate with families and community partners to promote positive outcomes.

You will report to the Youth Development Director, lead operations in the director's absence, and ensure compliance with licensing, safety standards, and YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Meet the VA DoE Division of Child Care Health and Safety requirements for Director-designee.
• CPR/First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Background checks and pre-employment requirements must be completed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
• Supervise staff and provide mentorship and professional development.
• Ensure licensing, standards, and YMCA policies are followed for health, safety and programming.
• Engage families and collaborate with community partners to support children.
• Coordinate with schools and community partners to enhance program offerings.
• Develop staff through training sessions and monitor program operations.
• Maintain records and prepare reports for regulators and stakeholders.
