The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Counselor (Site Lead) to oversee daily operations of the after-school program for children ages 5–12. You will provide leadership to staff, implement engaging activities, and partner with families and schools to support positive child development.

Under the Youth Development Director, you will ensure program quality and compliance with licensing, develop staff, maintain records, and communicate effectively with guardians.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
• Meet the minimum qualifications for “Director-designee” as defined by the VA Department of Education Division of Child Care Health and Safety.
• CPR/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
• Medication Authorization Training (MAT) within 60 days of hire.
• Completes all pre‑employment requirements including background checks.
• Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills appropriate for interacting with children required.
• Ability to be on time, every time for scheduled shifts required.
• Ability to work at various program locations preferred.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

• Manage documentation and reporting.
• Represent YMCA in community events.
