Job summary

Saab in West Lafayette, IN is seeking a Technical Writer to join a team manufacturing the rear section of the T-7A Redhawk aircraft for the U.S. Air Force.

The role serves as the local SME for technical writing, guiding inspectors, and driving quality documentation across multiple shifts. Core responsibilities include processing NCRs, FAIs, MRBs, and control plans, while ensuring adherence to ISO/AS quality standards.

Qualifications

• AS Degree in Quality, Technical Writing, or related STEM discipline OR 3 years’ related experience in a manufacturing quality role required.
• Previous technical writing experience in manufacturing or quality operation is required.
• Ability to work with and articulate technical product/process requirements associated with electro-mechanical assembly.
• Ability to interpret and revise written documentation for consistency and efficient repetition.
• Effective and concise written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrates a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to be self-driven and deliver high-quality results across a global team.
• Ability to work extended hours when needed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the local SME for technical writing and provide guidance/training for inspectors across multiple shifts.
• Report on writing performance and turnaround time to leadership.
• Identify common/repeated quality issues and establish corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Develop best practices for technical writing and maintain/update them as needed.
• Responsible for NCRs, Inspection Plans/Control Plans, FAIs, and MRB dispositions.
• Develop knowledge of the quality requirements defined by customer/industry standards.
• Facilitate and develop effective controls to provide high-quality products on schedule.
• Act as primary point of contact in non-conformance investigations and material assessments.
• Contribute to Saab's people-first culture, upholding Trust, Drive, Expertise and Support.
• Other projects and tasks as assigned.
