Job summary

Collins Aerospace, a unit within RTX, is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineering Manager (M5) to lead a Cargo Systems Software team onsite across multiple bases in the US. The role emphasizes DO-178C compliance, ARP4754A certification, and cross-functional leadership with systems, test, and program management.

You will drive technical decisions, establish development practices, and ensure delivery across programs while aligning with certification requirements and aerospace standards.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position. The company will not seek an export authorization for this role
• At least 10 years of experience in software and/or systems engineering.
• Proven experience leading software teams.
• Hands‑on experience with DO‑178B/C and ARP4754A certification, preferably at DAL A or B.
• Demonstrated ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, and engineering risk.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to a team of approximately 15 software engineers responsible for the development, verification, and sustainment of Cargo Systems Software.
• Offer technical oversight for the development of DO-178C-compliant Cargo Systems Software deployed across multiple aircraft platforms.
• Manage day-to-day engineering activities across multiple programs, ensuring predictable delivery of software builds and releases.
• Work closely with Systems, Test, Program Management, Platform teams, and Program Managers to maintain alignment on priorities and remove execution obstacles.
• Lead the development of engineering cost estimates for new pursuits and provide technical inputs related to scope, schedule, and risk assessments.
• Coach and develop software engineers, fostering accountability, communication, ownership, and continuous improvement.
