Job summary

Pratt & Whitney, located in Asheville, NC, is seeking a 1st shift material control lab evaluator to perform metallographic evaluation of blade and vane airfoils. You will prepare samples, evaluate, document quality, and interpret blueprints and procedures to ensure conformance to requirements.

The role involves collaboration with production and engineering to address metallurgical issues, with occasional off-shift coverage.

Qualifications

• B.S Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related engineering discipline.
• Prior 2 years minimum experience in metallurgical testing/ evaluation, inspection or microscopy.
• US citizenship is required due to government contracts.

Responsibilities

• Perform metallographic evaluation and documentation of processes including coating, EDM, weld, brazing and grinding used in blade and vane airfoils.
• Provide clear, concise and accurate lab reports.
• Maintain records, mounts and sample residue retention.
• Monitor testing frequency of all processes.
• Develop cut up and evaluation sheet for all tested parts.
• Perform annual ESA/MCL audit and five years MCL Source Qualification surveys.
• Interact with other functional groups on routine technical matters.
• Investigate parts and process related problems.
