Advanced Reentry Technologies in Playa Vista, CA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to contribute to mission-critical hardware for a high-performance reentry vehicle. You'll work with the Mechanical team, from CAD design to assembly and testing, under the Director of Mechanical.

This hands-on role requires quick learning, strong problem-solving, and clear communication as you support testing, documentation, and integration across the engineering lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Bachelor's or Master's in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Hands-on engineering experience through coursework, projects, or internships.
• Proficient with 3D CAD software such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or Creo.
• Solid understanding of statics, mechanics of materials, heat transfer, and machine design.
• Strong initiative, quick learner, and clear communication in a fast-paced team.
• Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality engineering work.
• Ability to work onsite at our Playa Vista, CA office during internship.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of mechanical systems including brackets, enclosures, mechanisms, tooling, and test equipment
• Create and revise 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and bills of materials
• Perform engineering analysis using first-principles calculations, hand analysis, and FEA
• Support hardware test campaigns: functional, vibration, shock, thermal, environmental tests
• Collaborate with manufacturing, technicians, and integration teams to build and inspect hardware
• Create and maintain engineering documentation: assembly procedures, test plans and reports
• Take ownership of well-scoped engineering projects and communicate progress and risks
