Job summary

Advanced Reentry Technologies in Playa Vista, CA, is seeking an Avionics Mechanical Engineering Intern to help design, build, integrate, and test mechanical hardware for flight avionics systems.

You will work with cross-functional teams and gain hands-on experience from concept to prototype, contributing to environmental testing while pursuing a degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• GPA 3.0 or above.
• 3+ months of applied engineering experience (internships, labs, or projects).
• Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or Fusion 360).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with avionics and mechanical engineers to design, build, and test hardware.
• Support packaging of flight computers, RF systems, sensors, and batteries.
• Create and modify 3D CAD models, drawings, and manufacturing docs.
• Assist design reviews including tolerances and interfaces.
• Build prototypes using machining, additive, sheet metal, or composites.
• Support vehicle-level avionics integration and harness routing.
• Participate in environmental testing (vibration, thermal, vacuum).
• Document test data and support engineering reports.
