Job summary

Inversion is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to help develop mission-critical hardware for its Arc reentry vehicle. You’ll work with seasoned engineers to move concepts to real, testable hardware across CAD design, analysis, procurement, assembly, testing, and vehicle integration.

This hands-on role is open to students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with strong CAD skills (NX/CATIA/SolidWorks/Creo) and a detail‑oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related field.
• Hands-on engineering interest demonstrated via coursework, projects, internships, or personal work.
• Experience with 3D CAD software such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or Creo.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of mechanical systems including brackets, enclosures, mechanisms, tooling, and test equipment.
• Create and revise 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and BOMs.
• Perform engineering analysis using first-principles, hand analysis, and FEA to assess structural and thermal performance.
• Support hardware test campaigns from planning through documentation (functional, vibration, thermal, environmental).
• Collaborate with manufacturing, technicians, and integration teams to build, inspect, and iterate hardware.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation, including assembly procedures, test plans and reports, interface documents, and design specs.
• Take ownership of well-scoped engineering projects and communicate progress, risks, and findings clearly.
