Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. seeks Embedded Software Engineering Interns for a 12-week, onsite program across U.S. locations. Applicants must be enrolled in college or recent grads with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and relocation housing stipends may be available.

Work alongside AV engineers on embedded software for unmanned aircraft and robotic systems, gaining hands-on experience from prototyping through validation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with C/C++ or Python.
• Understanding of low-level software concepts like memory management, interrupts, or device drivers.
• Exposure to I2C, SPI, UART or CAN.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in writing and testing embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios, and onboard components.
• Implement software in C/C++ for real-time and bare-metal systems on microcontrollers.
• Support integration of embedded software with hardware and debug with lab tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive development.
• Participate in peer reviews, documentation, and configuration management.
• Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems.
• Assist in prototypes and proof-of-concept demos.
