Job summary

AeroVironment invites students to our paid Summer Internship Program in California. As an Embedded Software Engineering Intern, you’ll design, develop, and test embedded software for unmanned systems, with mentors and real-world projects.

This 12‑week onsite internship requires a 3.0 GPA, targets juniors or above, and may include relocation/housing stipends. You’ll gain hands‑on experience in a full‑time work culture while exploring aerospace and robotics domains.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with C, C++, or Python.
• Understanding of low-level software concepts (memory management, interrupts, device drivers).

Responsibilities

• Assist in writing and testing embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios, and other onboard components.
• Help implement software in C/C++ for real-time and bare-metal systems.
• Support integration of software with hardware; debug with lab tools.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, and mechanical engineers to ensure cohesive development.
• Participate in peer reviews, software documentation, and configuration management.
• Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems for real-world missions.
• Assist in prototyping and proof-of-concept demonstrations.
