Job summary

AeroVironment in California invites students to join its paid Summer Internship Program for a 12-week onsite experience in aerospace and defense. Interns work with AV teams on meaningful projects, building professional relationships and hands-on problem-solving in a full-time environment.

The Embedded Software Engineering Intern role involves designing, developing, and testing embedded software for unmanned aerial and robotic systems, with microcontrollers and real-time goals.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with C, C++, or Python.
• Understanding of memory management, interrupts, or device drivers.
• Exposure to I2C, SPI, UART, or CAN.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in writing and testing embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios, and onboard components.
• Help implement software in C/C++ for real-time and bare-metal systems.
• Support integration of embedded software with hardware and debugging with lab tools.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, and mechanical engineers.
• Participate in peer reviews, documentation, and configuration management.
• Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems.
• Assist in prototype development and proofs-of-concept.
