Job summary

Blue Origin, based in Merritt Island, FL, seeks a CAD Drafter II to support Ground Support Development. You will create 3D parametric models and 2D drawings using Creo and Windchill, aiding the design of ground systems for New Glenn operations, test stands, and tooling.

The role is an entry-level position with mentorship and onboarding, focusing on accuracy, standards compliance, and collaboration across mechanical, structural, and electrical disciplines.

Qualifications

• 2-year AS degree in CAD/Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting & Design or equivalent.
• Foundational GD&T experience.
• Knowledge of aerospace/structural/mechanical/electrical systems.
• Mechanical design using 3D parametric modeling software.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14 series drafting standards.
• Ability to read and interpret general processes and technical specs.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
• U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain detail part and assembly models and drawings using PTC Creo Parametric 12 and Windchill PLM under guidance from senior designers.
• Support the development of Model-Based Definition datasets including 3D annotations and PMI.
• Assist with mechanical/structural design layouts including steel frameworks and platforms.
• Support fluid system design including piping routes and tubing assemblies.
• Contribute to electrical design including enclosure assemblies and cable routing.
• Prepare design layouts, modify existing designs, and identify design discrepancies.
• Review drawings for alignment with specifications and drafting standards.
• Apply ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41 and other standards to product data.
• Support Windchill product structure organization and change workflows.
• Leverage AI-assisted design tools to improve productivity and drawing quality.
• Participate in drawing check activities under senior oversight.
