Job summary

Apera's Battery team is seeking a BMS Engineer to own the Battery Management System and Charge Control on electric aircraft. From system definition to firmware bring-up and field debugging, you will drive high-ownership work across hardware and software, aligned with certification goals.

The role requires deep embedded expertise, strong hardware/software integration skills, and the ability to work in a high‑assurance development environment to enable safe, reliable flight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related field.
• Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, switching power supplies, and insulation strategies.
• Programming proficiency in C, C++, and Python for embedded software.
• Experience with software development and debugging for embedded systems.
• Ability to operate lab equipment such as HV/LV power supplies, oscilloscopes, and soldering irons.
• Experience with Git or SVN for version control.

Responsibilities

• Design battery and charge management systems with safety and fuel gauging in mind.
• Write system-level and hardware/software requirements for certification-ready charge controller hardware.
• Lead development of new software and support its testing on hardware and in the aircraft.
• Provide support and improvements for existing hardware and software across the aircraft platform.
• Support debugging and testing of hardware and software in a certification environment.
• Collaborate with Ground Support Equipment team to deliver seamless charging across platforms and EVSEs.
