Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Rockford, IL is seeking an onsite assembler/inspector to join the Ram Air Turbines team. You will perform assembly, inspection, and repair of sub and final assemblies, adhere to work instructions, and maintain calibration records.

The role includes shift-specific training and close collaboration with engineering and suppliers. US citizenship is required for access to program information; 1–2 years of relevant experience and a high school diploma are preferred.

• High School Diploma/GED required.

Responsibilities

• Performs assembly, inspection, disassembly, reassembly, safety wiring, part marking, painting and repair of sub and final assemblies with some assistance.
• Maintain quality stamp authority.
• Complete necessary documents and records.
• Follow written instructions per route card, J.I.S., or work order; use engineering prints for problem analysis with some assistance.
• Develop general knowledge of operation/function of assemblies to troubleshoot units.
• Operate and maintain departmental machinery, equipment, tooling or gauging as required with assistance.
• Learn machine brazing, soldering and balancing.
• Identify processing changes and method improvements.
• Maintain instrumentation calibration and department records (torque wrenches, inch micrometer, gauges, etc.).
• Collaborate with supervision, Engineering, suppliers and other support personnel to resolve problems.
• Interface with customer or government personnel as required.
• Use inspection equipment to perform visual and/or dimensional inspection of in-process sub-assemblies and assemblies to ensure conformity to blueprints and work orders.
• Perform and monitor test set-ups and verify equipment calibrations with assistance.
• Verify job instructions, blueprints or specifications are up-to-date.
• Perform environmental checks on temperature, humidity, and cleanliness of the work area.
• Incorporate engineering changes as required by the manufacturing process plan.
• Calculate fractions and decimals; basic shop math.
• Monitor department process equipment for acceptance of fluids and gas conditions, temperature and other operating perimeters.
• Maintain certifications as needed for the area.
• Print process manufacturing documentation as required.
• Understand hazardous materials and proper handling.
• Mix and apply adhesives, paints and locktites with assistance.
• Assist supervision with department administrative tasks.
• Document material acceptance or rejection.
• 2nd Shift 3:00pm – 11:00pm; training on 1st or 2nd Shift for up to 3 months.
