Position Overview:

  • You will report directly to the Advanced Operations Director for Continence Care/Ostomy Care, and you will be responsible for the delivery of new products and processes within agreed timelines and budget.

  • You will be critical in ensuring new product processes & equipment are integrated into manufacturing facilities.

  • You will work in partnership with R&D teams, and you will be responsible to specify processes capable of manufacturing New Product Designs to the highest safety, quality, and efficiency in a cost-effective manner, ensuring full compliance with both ConvaTec procedures, local laws and policies.

  • You will work with other engineers and project managers within the Advanced Operations Team and key functions across all operational networks to ensure effective group planning, execution, and reporting.

  • You will ensure during the early development stages that equipment and process requirements are focused on long-term production efficiencies, product profitability, also minimizing the need to invest in product lifecycle improvements, as well as improving speed to market.

  • You will be comfortable delivering projects with full transparency, detailed regular reporting on status, financials, and actions to all stakeholders within the designated operations network ensuring processes and products are delivered to the highest quality and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct process investigation/experiments alongside R&D and support AO leads with engineering studies & test activities / Proof of principle (POP) & equivalence trials during project process development and materials qualification – internally and with vendors, including sound statistical and structured approaches, using tools such as process map, risk assessments, e.g. FMEA, Ishikawa diagram, flow charts, DOE.

  • Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Automation (DFA) inputs to the R&D and process development teams throughout the product design cycle.

  • Review of material, process, and testing specifications for new product, to ensure optimal transition of design and process into manufacturing.

  • Lead technical troubleshooting activities on equipment using Six Sigma principles.

  • Act as a technical support and deputize for technical leads where required.

  • Use in-depth process knowledge to help inform process FMEAs, set realistic tolerances, devising of sampling plans.

  • Support Automation project managers in URS creation for equipment.

  • Proven record of conducting validations, act as the author into validation protocols/reports incl. of URS, FAT, SAT, IQ, ES, OQ, PQ.

  • Leading validation runs, supporting run ins and ramp ups.

  • Supporting technical leads during equipment build, attending design reviews, where possible challenging vendors on technology and equipment design recommendations and changes, to ensure suitability for efficient and high-quality production in preferred plant location.

  • Establish and maintain the technical documentation throughout the project.

  • Ensures knowledge and expertise around the product and key equipment processes are handed over to local site engineering/manufacturing and ensure handover checklist completed as part of Business As Usual stage handover.

Skills & Experience:

  • Be proficient in the use (speaking) and understanding (reading and writing) of the English language.

  • Demonstrable experience working with R&D teams in delivering automated manufacturing equipment solutions for new products.

  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience as process engineer or similar.

  • Knowledge and experience in operations, manufacturing, or engineering is essential, installation and validation of new product equipment.

  • Demonstrate experience in the introduction of AGV’s, material handling systems, Automated packaging equipment for primary, secondary, and tertiary products.

  • Demonstrate a full understanding of the ‘Life cycle’ of a project and be experienced will all aspects and deliverables within that ‘Life cycle’ from concept justification to URS/RFP/POP/FAT/SAT/IQ/OQ/PQ to handover.

  • Desired to have or working towards six sigma Green Belt.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a scientific subject.

  • Design control, statistical techniques, and validation standards.

  • Process Excellence Green or Black Belt would be an advantage.

  • LEAN methodologies training/qualification is an advantage.

Travel Requirements:

Position may involve travel up to 60% of the time, mostly within Europe but overseas travel is expected. Most trips will include overnight travel.
