The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) assigned to the Surgical Care Service Line within the Iowa City VA Healthcare System supports the PACT model, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to keep clinics running smoothly in Iowa City, IA.

They coordinate reviews of clinic utilization, adjust setups, and manage follow-up communications with patients and teams, including secure messaging, discharge communications, and tracking for follow-ups and tests.

Qualifications

• Coordinate with patient care team to review clinic utilization and support clinic operations.
• Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient and interdisciplinary team.
• Assist with communications during inpatient to outpatient discharge and with non-VA facilities.
• Facilitate secure messaging and follow-up tracking for tests and consults.

Responsibilities

• Review clinic utilization using reports to ensure clinic setup meets needs and make adjustments as needed.
• Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team, VA centers, and other agencies.
• Assist with communications during inpatient to outpatient discharge; communicate with non-VA facilities; facilitate secure messaging.
• Notify patients of normal lab results and manage tracking for follow-up care such as consults and tests.
