Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead ruggedized electronics packaging for naval torpedo systems. You will design, analyze, and document mechanical aspects of torpedo hardware, applying SolidWorks CAD and GD&T standards.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage drawings and BOMs in Windchill EPDM, support testing and manufacturing, and communicate technical results to program management and Navy customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
• Experience with ruggedized electronics packaging preferred.
• Security clearance (DoD Secret) preferred at time of hire.
• Strong CAD modeling and drawing creation skills required.

Job description

• Participate in cross-functional teams to develop ruggedized electronics assemblies for various torpedo platforms
• Support proposals, research, development, manufacture, test, and documentation for Torpedo Systems
• Support development, manufacture, and test for Torpedo Systems test equipment
• Lead mechanical design efforts for Torpedo and related test systems
• Design and analyze components and electromechanical assemblies for shock, vibration, and thermal environmental requirements
• Produce and review part fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials using SolidWorks CAD and Windchill EPDM while adhering to ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 standards
• Develop fixtures and equipment for testing and production
• Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications for program management, Navy customers, and government officials
• Present technical designs and explain technical issues
• Perform peer reviews for mechanical tasks across the business area
• Work with manufacturing and production to resolve emergent issues and support schedules and customer commitments
• Contribute hands-on technical work and leadership to the design and development of ruggedized electronics equipment for the United States Navy

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire
• Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
• U.S. citizenship is required
• Strong proficiency with modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and drawings
• Extensive knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods, and technical, government, and industry standards
• Experience leading complex projects
• Strong communication skills, including ability to write technical papers and proposals
• Strong attention to detail
• Experience with ruggedized electronics packaging for Naval applications a plus
• Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) a plus
• Experience with ANSYS Finite Element Analysis tools a plus
• Experience with thermal and structural design of electronic systems a plus
• Experience using SolidWorks CAD a plus
• Electronics packaging design experience a plus
