Job Summary

Harris-Stowe State University is seeking an enthusiastic, student-focused Admissions Counselor to join the Enrollment Management team. This position plays an important role in building the University's undergraduate enrollment by connecting prospective students and their families with the opportunities, resources, and support they need to make informed decisions about their college experience.

The Admissions Counselor will manage an assigned geographic recruitment territory, develop relationships with prospective students and key community partners, represent the University at recruitment events, and guide students through the admissions and enrollment process.

The ideal candidate is a relationship builder and strong communicator who enjoys working with students, thrives in a goal-oriented environment, and is comfortable balancing independent responsibility with collaboration across a team.

Student Recruitment & Relationship Management
  • Manage an assigned geographic territory and work toward established enrollment and recruitment goals.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with prospective students, families, high school counselors, community college personnel, athletic department coaches and staff, and other key partners.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and accessible resource for prospective students throughout the admissions and enrollment process.
  • Conduct timely follow-up with prospective students and applicants through correspondence, telephone outreach, special events, and other engagement strategies.
  • Help prospective students understand admissions requirements, important deadlines, academic programs, financial aid processes, and other factors that may influence their college decision.
Recruitment & University Representation
  • Represent Harris-Stowe State University at high school visits, college fairs, community programs, recruitment events, and other on- and off-campus activities.
  • Deliver engaging admissions presentations to prospective students, families, school personnel, and community groups.
  • Participate in recruitment travel, including approximately 13 weeks during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Assist with planning, promoting, and executing campus recruitment and admissions events.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for the University and its mission, programs, and commitment to student success.
Admissions & Enrollment Support
  • Serve as a liaison between prospective students and appropriate University departments to help facilitate a seamless enrollment experience.
  • Maintain current knowledge of admissions, academic, financial aid, and enrollment requirements and processes.
  • Assist applicants in completing their admission files and meeting critical enrollment deadlines.
  • Review applicant materials and make admissions decisions in accordance with University policies and established procedures.
  • Conduct applicant interviews when appropriate.
  • Make scholarship recommendations and, when assigned, participate in scholarship awarding activities.
  • Facilitate placement testing when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate and timely information in University admissions and information systems.
  • Collaborate with colleagues throughout Enrollment Management and across the University to support recruitment and enrollment objectives.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented, systematic approach to admissions and recruitment.
  • Use data, technology, and relationship-management tools to organize recruitment activities, monitor progress, and support effective follow-up.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions.
Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively during peak recruitment periods.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience in college or university admissions, recruitment, enrollment management, or a related student-facing role.
  • Experience working with a relational database, student information system, or customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Experience with Jenzabar CX or a similar higher education information system.
  • Previous experience conducting college admissions presentations, recruitment events, or territory management.

Work Schedule & Travel

This position requires flexibility to support the University's recruitment and enrollment calendar. Evening and weekend work may be required, particularly during recruitment events and peak enrollment periods.

The position requires significant recruitment travel, during the fall and spring semesters, as well as local and regional travel for high school visits, college fairs, community programs, and other recruitment activities.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and the ability to transport and set up recruitment materials and displays as needed.
