Job summary

Butler University is seeking an Admission Counselor to promote the university to prospective students and families, guiding them through the college search and enrollment process. You will manage a recruitment territory with travel, coordinate campus visits, and deliver information sessions—on-campus with some remote work options depending on season.

Job description

Position Overview

This admission counselor role promotes and represents the university to prospective students and families and assists them throughout their college search and enrollment process. As a member of the Visit Experience team, this position reports to the Associate Director of Admission for Campus Visits & Events and is responsible for all aspects of recruiting prospective first year (and transfer) students. This position will support multiple recruitment projects and programs and use a strategic approach to territory management with the guidance of the admission senior team. Additionally, responsibilities will include aspects of campus visit and event planning and execution, as well as being intricately involved in all Visit Experience team meetings and planning. This role serves in a primarily on-campus capacity during the regular work week with flexibility based on required travel and approved work from home options that may include one to two days a week depending on season/workload.

Responsibilities
Recruitment Territory
  • Strategically manage an assigned territory involving approximately 6-12 weeks of travel such as high school visits, college fair attendance, student and parent panel participation, interviews, case studies, and prospective or admitted student receptions. Travel responsibilities will be spread throughout the fall and spring semesters, with some weekend travel and/or campus-based responsibilities required (campus visits and events).
  • Cultivate relationships with students and parents, school/college counselors, independent counselors, and community-based organizations in recruitment territory.
  • Review and holistically evaluate approximately 400-1000 applications for assigned territory.
  • Plan and execute data-driven travel based on demographic analyses, market research, and other admission data to high schools and college fairs in assigned territory; 25-100+ high school visits, 5-25+ college fairs, 10-40+ days of travel, including overnight travel.
  • Counsel and guide students and parents on the admission and financial aid process to support enrollment via phone, text, interview, campus visit programs, etc.
  • Coordinate or help facilitate off-campus events and meetings for prospective/admitted students (including virtual).
Campus Visits & Events
  • As an integral member of the Visit Experience Team, attend all Visit Team meetings. Help the team plan, coordinate, and execute high-level campus visits and events for prospective and admitted students.
  • Lead team member on the coordination and execution of Group Visit requests submitted through the Office of Admission.
  • Regularly present and facilitate in-person and virtual Information Sessions and serve as Counselor of the Day (COD) 2-4 times per month.
Other Responsibilities
  • Serve as primary or secondary liaison to other academic or student support offices.
  • Serve on an appointed admission application review committee.
  • Review and make recommendations on applications for supplemental scholarship opportunities.
  • Interview students for select scholarships (Butler Blue Scholars Day).
  • Attend meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops.
  • Serve as member of regional professional association and attend professional development conferences / opportunities when available.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent communication skills, including being comfortable presenting to both small and large group audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills – detail oriented.
  • Strong teamwork skills for providing solutions.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a changing environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work extra hours and/or weekends when needed.
  • Valid US driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of college admission or enrollment management experience preferred, OR other professional experience in working with college bound students.
  • Event management or involvement with campus visit planning, and the execution of small to large-scale events. Having a passion for providing excellent customer service (hospitality) in both large-and small-scale settings is desired.
  • Experience in database management (knowledge of Slate or other admission CRM is a plus).
  • Experience working in financial aid or strong knowledge base of the student financial aid process.
  • Experience in selective admission review processes.
  • Experience in multicultural recruitment, international admission, college access, fluency in Spanish and/or other languages.
