Overview

Widener University is seeking an Adjunct Professor in the Department of History in the Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences. The role involves teaching introductory‑level global history surveys (1500–present) and/or a 300‑level seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise. Adjunct faculty may teach 1–3 courses each semester on an as‑needed basis, meeting in person on the Chester, PA campus during the day.

Responsibilities

• Teach introductory‑level global history survey courses covering 1500–present.
• Teach upper‑level (300‑level) seminar courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
• Design own syllabi and implement preferred pedagogy within prevailing norms and best practices.
• Stay current with historical research and ensure course content reflects recent academic findings.
• Schedule courses on fall T/TH 12:30‑1:45pm and 2:00‑3:15pm (100‑level) and 9:30‑10:45am (300‑level).
• Be available to meet with students outside of scheduled class time and provide support and guidance.
• Prepare course materials, assessments, and grading schedules.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in History.
• Experience teaching global history at the undergraduate level.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and effective classroom management.
• Willingness to be flexible in class scheduling.
• Experience with undergraduate teaching (preferred).

Physical & Unusual Hours

Part‑time adjunct faculty may instruct 1–3 courses per semester on an "as needed" basis. Courses are offered during the day, and students may need to meet outside of regularly scheduled class time.
