Job Description:

Provides didactic and/or skills instruction following Maryland Board of Nursing approved CNA curriculum to meet the educational requirements stated in the course description and objectives. Prepares students to take the Maryland Board of Nursing Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) skills exam and the Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) exam.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct organized classes to meet the educational requirements and curriculum standards.
2. Teach core skills related to CNA/GNA scope of practice.
3. Evaluate student progress; notify students needing remediation or tutoring.
4. Prepare students for CNA and GNA testing.
5. Supervise and evaluate students during clinical experiences at long-term care facilities.
6. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
7. Participate in professional development activities to stay current in discipline, knowledge, and instructional methods.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

1. Current RN license to practice in Maryland.
2. Minimum of two years nursing experience, with at least one year caring for the elderly or chronically ill in the past five years.
3. Completion of a course with at least 16 hours of instruction in adult education principles or at least two years of teaching experience.

Desired Qualifications:

1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher (in progress or earned).
2. Ability to prepare and present instructional material effectively.
3. Knowledge of basic ADL and personal care skills in a long-term care setting.
4. Ability to perform and instruct skills according to MBON guidelines.
5. Ability to supervise and assess up to 8 students during clinicals.
6. Excellent communication skills.
7. Experience with Blackboard.
8. Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of students.
