Qualifications

  • 5+ years of acute care outpatient coding experience.
  • Management experience in healthcare required.
  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification preferred.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As an Acute Care Outpatient Coding Lead, you will serve as the daily contact for coding, DRG/code validation, and operational questions from coding staff, Health Information Management Service Center (HSC), and shared service departments. You will support coding leadership by coordinating coding and education activities within the HSC, ensuring complete, accurate, and consistent coding for proper reimbursement, data integrity, and minimal variation in practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and perform HSC coding quality reviews for inpatient and outpatient coding, including DRG and query validation.
  • Provide feedback and education on coding opportunities identified during reviews.
  • Ensure timely entry of rebill requests according to policies.
  • Assist coding staff with questions and operational issues.
  • Help improve processes and services with the Coding Manager.
  • Review accounts promptly to maintain cash flow, accuracy, and meet deadlines using various tools.
  • Coordinate activities related to education, training, and orientation of team members.
  • Report team progress, issues, and training needs to the Coding Manager.
  • Coach and facilitate team problem-solving.
  • Verify and report staff productivity across coding and reconciliation functions.

Qualifications:

  • Management and supervisory experience in healthcare.
  • Minimum 5 years of acute care outpatient coding experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of coding auditing experience.
  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification (or in process).
  • Associate’s degree or higher in HIM/HIT preferred.
