Job Summary and Qualifications

The Acute Care Outpatient Coding Lead serves as the primary contact for coding, DRG/code validation, and operational questions from the coding staff, HSC staff, and shared service center departments. You will support coding leadership by coordinating coding and education activities within the HSC, ensuring department goals are met, and verifying accurate, complete coding and DRG validation to ensure appropriate reimbursement, data integrity, and consistent practices.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading and coordinating HSC coding quality reviews for inpatient and outpatient coding, including DRG/code validation and query validation.
• Providing timely feedback and education on coding opportunities identified during account reviews.
• Ensuring timely entry of rebill requests according to company policies.
• Answering coding questions and assisting Coding Integrity Specialists, Reimbursement Specialists, and CDI Liaisons with daily operations.
• Supporting process improvements in collaboration with the Coding Manager.
• Reviewing accounts promptly to maintain cash flow, accuracy, and meet deadlines using tools like eRequest, Bill 49, and C-PART.
• Coordinating training and orientation activities for team members.
• Reporting team and individual accomplishments, issues, and training needs to the Coding Manager.
• Coaching and facilitating team work, solving problems, and participating in team activities.
• Verifying and reporting staff productivity metrics for various coding functions.

Qualifications required:

• Management and supervisory experience in healthcare.
• At least 5 years of acute care outpatient coding experience.
• At least 3 years of coding auditing experience.
• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification, or in process of obtaining it.
• Associates degree or higher in HIM/HIT preferred.
