Job Summary and Qualifications

As an Acute Care Outpatient Coding Lead, you will be the daily contact for coding, DRG/code validation, operational, and general questions from the coding staff, Health Information Management Service Center (HSC) staff, and shared service center departments. You will support coding leadership by coordinating coding and education activities within the HSC, working to achieve company department goals, and verifying complete, accurate, and consistent coding for appropriate reimbursement and data integrity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and performing HSC coding quality reviews for inpatient and outpatient coding.
  • Providing feedback and education on coding opportunities.
  • Ensuring timely rebill requests.
  • Answering coding questions and assisting staff with operations.
  • Reviewing and improving processes.
  • Reviewing accounts to ensure cash flow and accuracy.
  • Coordinating training and education activities.
  • Reporting on team performance and training needs.
  • Coaching and problem-solving within the team.
  • Verifying and reporting staff productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Management and supervisory experience in healthcare.
  • Minimum 5 years of acute care outpatient coding experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of coding auditing experience.
  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification (or in process).
  • Associate's degree or higher in HIM/HIT preferred.
