Job summary

MedStar Health in Bel Air, MD, seeks a Respiratory Therapist to provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients of all ages as ordered by physicians according to established standards. You will assess patients, document educational needs, and participate in quality safety initiatives.

You will perform therapies, monitor equipment including ventilators and blood gas analysis, and respond to emergencies. Maryland/DC licensure, CRT and CPR required with ACLS/NRP/PALS within 1 year where needed.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree from AMA accredited respiratory care program.
• Bachelor’s degree in related healthcare field preferred.
• Less than 1 year acute care experience; registry eligible.
• RCP license in Maryland and/or DC; CRT NBRC required; RRT preferred.
• CPR certification required; ACLS/NRP/PALS where required within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies, procedures, quality and safety standards.
• Assesses physical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural dimensions and educational needs; documents.
• Performs respiratory therapies including oxygen, ventilators, suction, spirometry, EKG, blood gas analysis.
• Uses therapeutic communication, problem solving and crisis intervention in patient care.
• Reviews EMR and physician orders during shift.
• Responds to CPR; maintains airway and ventilation as needed.

Associate’s degree in respiratory care (AAS) or higher

RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (Maryland/DC)

RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist NBRC (preferred)

CPR certification (AHA/Red Cross) within 90 days

ACLS/NRP/PALS within 1 year where required
