Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform laboratory testing of biological specimens in an acute care setting across multiple specialty areas, using manual or automated techniques. You will report timely, accurate results using independent judgment and adhere to established policies.

The role requires an Associate's Degree in Clinical Lab Technician and ASCP BOC or AMT certification within 1 year, with 1–2 years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests per protocols, adjusting workflow to complete work timely.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance and reports results per policy.
• Performs calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment; conducts quality control.
• Recognizes instrument/method failures and notifies supervisors; participates in proficiency testing.
• Collects specimens from newborn to adult patients per protocol.
• Provides technical assistance to Phlebotomists and support staff.
• Assists in improving laboratory procedures and ensures compliance with accrediting standards.
• Performs specialty testing across transfusion, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Supports critical care departments with timely results during high acuity events.
• Demonstrates knowledge of care appropriate to age-specific patient needs.
