Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to support the clinical laboratory operations in a fast-paced environment. You will adhere to quality assurance guidelines, prepare reagents, manage supplies, and troubleshoot test systems as needed.

The role requires an associate degree or CLIA-defined training, MLT registry eligibility within one year of hire, and appropriate certifications per ASCP/AMT or military programs.

Qualifications

• Must have an associate degree or equivalent education and training as defined by CLIA.
• MLT registry eligible or equivalent required within one year of hire.
• MLT (ASCP/AMT) or equivalent required within one year of hire.
• Certification through U.S. military medical laboratory training programs by an accredited institution is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency and follows testing procedures and policies by adherence to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area.
• Prepares reagents, maintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures and manages inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste/expense.
• Exercises clinical judgment in assessing priorities while identifying, problem solving and offering solutions to test systems through the appropriate department channels.
• Assists with review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, adhering to all regulatory requirements for various authorities, including CAP, TJC, OSHA.
• Maintains clear, real time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns and problems which may affect patient care or the operation of the department.
• Participates in planning and implementing change through participation in staff meetings, task forces or projects.
• Willingly performs all other duties as assigned.
