Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance in Lansing, Michigan invites motivated actuarial students to join our Actuarial Division as an actuarial (ratemaking) intern. This in-person summer internship offers hands-on experience with loss projections and reporting within a supportive team.

The internship runs Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours per week, with typical shifts from 8:00 am–4:30 pm or 7:30 am–4:00 pm. Most interns start mid-May and stay through mid-August, overlapping mentors.

Qualifications

• Students must be working toward a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Predictive Analytics, or a related field and have completed at least two years of the curriculum.
• Strong mathematical and actuarial aptitude with ability to perform statistical modeling.

Responsibilities

• Become familiar with using and understanding insurance manuals and principles.
• Evaluate frequency, severity, and premium trends for purposes of projecting future losses based on historical loss data.
• Effectively communicate with other employees through verbal and/or written means.
• Organize and provide management with reports to aid in decision making.
• Participate in both formal and informal training sessions.
