Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated Data Engineering intern to join our team for the summer. The role analyzes data processes, designs plans, and builds data quality, reporting, and governance solutions in a collaborative setting.

Internship offers full-time hours, in-person work in Lansing, MI, with flexible start/end dates (mid-May to mid-August). Ideal candidates are pursuing a quantitative degree with 2+ years of coursework and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Working toward a bachelor’s in statistics, computer science, data mining, machine learning, mathematics, physics, OR operations research, with at least two years of coursework completed.
• Master’s students considered if graduation is August 2027 or later.
• Actuarial exams or Company-approved courses helpful.

Responsibilities

• Identify business requirements with stakeholders and outline expected outcomes.
• Summarize and evaluate data assets for internal and external use, including government agencies.
• Handle regulatory data requests accurately and timely.
• Understand data sources and lineage across Company systems.
• Build and maintain code to transform, aggregate, and analyze data.
• Create data extracts and analyses to support reporting needs.
• Assess data reliability and integrity, and promote data quality across the division.
• Provide training and mentorship to other associates.
• Promote peer review and implement quality controls.
